Hi, I’m Heather and I’m so glad you stopped by to visit my blog today. Sassy Sensibility is my place to let my creative juices flow and to share with you my unending desire to create and inspire.
I love all things creative and I love how it feels to make something myself. Here you will find everything from craft ideas to hints and tricks to make the everyday extraordinary.
I reside in a tiny little town (population 1,900) in Wisconsin just about 30 minutes outside of Minneapolis – St. Paul. My two kids and I live in a nice quiet neighborhood and I work as a Sales Administrator by day and crafter and blogger by night. I love keeping busy and am always looking at fun projects to take on. (Maybe a bit too many at times!) On weekends, my amazing guy and I enjoy hitting up some of the many local antique shops and flea markets to see what kind of fun things we might discover. The foliage and scenery in our neck of the woods is absolutely breathtaking in the Spring, Summer, and Fall. The winter here is mostly snow but I love it all the same. There is something so peaceful and tranquil to me about a freshly fallen layer of snow…and snow angels!
By nature, I am an outgoing and extroverted (ok ok, I LOVE to talk) and get very animated at times, but I can definitely be completely content left alone to create as well. I am ambitious and a bit of a perfectionist. My mind is always running and coming up with good and sometimes not-so-good ideas. But it’s always fun to give it a try, regardless of the outcome. Some of my very favorite things are blue jeans, warm blankets, fuzzy slippers, kittens, old bookstores, music of all kinds (everything from Aerosmith to Pachelbel), flowers (especially roses and tulips) and of course chocolate. My favorite vacation spot would definitely be Destin, Florida. I love the beautiful sugar sand beaches and the gorgeous emerald water.
Twenty-two years ago I married my high-school sweetheart. He was the love of my life for nearly twenty years when he suddenly passed away. I was devastated. My whole world was turned upside down in a matter of minutes. I did not know what to do or where to turn. I gave it all to God. Everything. I knew I couldn’t do it alone. It has been a bit of a rough road the last couple of years but I have managed to take lemons and make lemonade. My two children, Emily and Emmett are the center of my world. Emily is 20 and is a junior in college where she is following in my footsteps and majoring in Business Administration and Marketing. Emmett is 18 and is a senior in high school. He plays the drums and so I get to listen to his practicing at home quite a bit. He will be going to college this fall to major in Engineering. I am extremely proud of my kids and their accomplishments in the face of immense adversity. We have all been through some tough times but we stuck together and battled through it.
I have recently had another amazing guy enter my life. Kyle and I have had many adventures and so much fun in the last year. He has been a great source of strength and encouragement to me in all of this and I can’t thank him enough for all he has done. He keeps me balanced when I go off on a tangent and brings me back down to earth when I tend to float off (which is more often than I like to admit). He gives amazing hugs and loves to join me in my crafting endeavors. I am one lucky lady to have him.
I grew up in the South (Arkansas) and moved up to the land of snow and cold about 9 years ago. I love it here and call Wisconsin my home. I am the oldest of three children (the ringleader). My sister is an elementary teacher and my brother is a physical education teacher and cross-country coach. I apparently did not receive the gene for patience and teaching children, therefore I am in management and sales. (Maybe because I’m good at being a bit bossy at times?) As a child, I was always painting or sewing something. I always loved making beautiful things to give to family and friends. My parents constantly encouraged my creativity. My mom taught me to sew at a young age and I made all kinds of aprons, pillows, doll clothes, and even clothes for myself. My dad is an amazing artist and I get my knack for painting and drawing from him. I am a born-again Christian and know that without the strength and grace of Jesus Christ I would have never made it to where I am today.
I decided to start a blog to share my adventures and inspiration for making everyday extraordinary. I love life and the joy I find in the little things that occur each and everyday. I always try to find the positivity in every situation and believe that all you have to do is look and you’ll find it. I am so excited to start this journey with you and I hope you’ll come back often and check in to see what new things I’ve been up to. 🙂
